Gita
Gita is a former model and actress who professionally took up the craft of block printing in 2017. Her interest with the historic art dates back to her childhood. She grew up in a far-eastern culture and regularly traveled to India, being exposed to mandalas and traditional art from a young age. At 21, she moved from England to India, by way of a 6-month visit becoming a 6-year excursion. As a young woman she found herself in the Bollywood scene, building a career on stage and growing her attachment to the colorful culture she was already familiarly bonded to.
Along with more cultural exposure, she met block carvers which would later impact her. In having her son, Gita moved back to the UK with family for a year before settling in the US. After some years focused as a mother, she turned to selling stamps before getting into the craft of block printing. Her love of fashion informed her new skill, and she found pride in creating personal and unique clothing.
Wood Block Printing
These are hand carved wooden stamps, also known as block print.
Wooden Stamps can be used to print on paper, card, clothing, clay, skin, or displayed decoratively. They are one of the oldest forms of printing, and were used historically to make books, art and illustration prints, and fabric patterns.
